The disciples were struggling with Jesus’ words. He’d foretold His death and was telling them what would come next. In the New Testament book of James (James 15:7-15), Jesus introduces His friends to the Holy Spirit—the Advocate or Helper (depending on your version) before laying out the Spirit’s ministry roles. What are the roles of the Spirit described in the Gospel of John, according to Jesus? And how do they apply to modern 21st-century Christianity, almost 2,000 years later?
