Saturday, December 14 at 4 p.m. Under the direction of Dr. James Bingham, the Spencerville Sanctuary Choir, combined with the Columbia Collegiate Chorale of Washington Adventist University to lead in a traditional Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. The story of the fall of man, the promised Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine Bible readings, interspersed with the singing of carols, hymns and choral anthems. Our service has its origins in a service created by Edward White Benson, who was at the time Bishop of Truro, in Cornwall. He first presented this service on Christmas Eve, 1880 in a temporary wooden shed that was serving as his cathedral. It has been a tradition at Spencerville for over two decades.
