Starting next week, we’re reading The Desire of Ages as a church — the whole book, all 87 chapters, over the next year.
The plan is two chapters a week, or roughly forty minutes if you’d rather listen. Read a little each day, or sit down with it once a week, whichever fits your life. A few lighter weeks are built in around the holidays, and if you fall behind, you can catch up.
In The Desire of Ages, most chapters begin by listing the scripture passage the chapter is based on. I encourage you to read those passages, then read The Desire of Ages. Ellen White herself called her writings the “lesser light” shining on the “greater light” of the Bible. The Desire of Ages helps us understand the Bible and God’s will for us. It can never replace our Bible study of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
So, read the Bible, then read The Desire of Ages.
The complete text and the audio recording are free at egwwritings.org and in the EGW Writings app.
Why a year? Because we want to spend a year refreshing ourselves in Jesus daily. Please don’t read as a task; read to see and fall in love with Jesus, maybe for the first time or all over again. There’s no better thing we could do together this year than to look long and steadily at Him.
Beginning September 13, read chapters 1 “God With Us” and 2 “The Chosen People”
