This week has been rough. Many of you know this firsthand because you’ve been working right alongside our staff as we pick up the pieces following the loss of Don Mauller. The pastoral staff expresses our sincerest appreciation and thanks for your help. More will be needed as little by little we recognize all that Don contributed to our church family. The loss of Don is also the reason that you’re seeing the Weekly Update on a Friday instead of Wednesday.
Following the loss of our brother Don, we naturally will be sad, somber, and teary-eyed. After all, we have lost a good friend. But, as Christians, through our tears there is hope. Don’s next moment will be to see Jesus! And because we know this, we can rejoice in the hope that we have for what is to come: “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
Brothers and sisters, we have hope! I’m so thankful that it’s not an earthly hope. Instead, “We boast in the hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:2) A divine hope, a blessed hope, and an assured hope.
